These days everyone has an opinion on whether or not to have the “First Look”– the brides-to-be, wedding planners, photographers, the mother of the groom, and on and on. While each party could undoubtedly point to many pros and many cons—based on what real-life couples will tell you, the pros far outweigh! Take a look, and let us know what you think….
1. Make it more intimate. Yes it seems like a grand entrance to make at the ceremony-when both of you will lay eyes on each other for the very first time. But Is it really that intimate and romantic? Wouldn’t it be nice to share that moment by yourselves, unburdened by the hundreds of pairs of eyes watching your every step? Wouldn’t you like to soak in this moment longer than the amount of time it takes you to walk down the aisle? It is one of the truly priceless moments in life- why not extend it as much as you can?
2. Spend more time together. It sounds bizarre, but some couples have realized much to their chagrin, that for much of the day, they were separated because they waited until the ceremony to see each other. And when the reception came around, they were apart again while entertaining all the different groups of guests! Start your photos earlier and the time will be more intimate than any other moment of the day because you get to be by yourselves- just drinking in each other’s company with no guests to entertain and schmooze.
3. Spend more time with your guests. As a photographer myself, I always feel guilty for stealing away the couple during cocktail hour. I feel very strongly that the couple should be spending time AT the cocktail hour WITH their guests! This is a time to mingle especially when these photos could have been taken earlier in the day!
4.. Get the natural light photos. If you are getting married in the winter months, or later in the evening, you’re probably not going to get many photos of the two of you in natural light. The photos taken in natural light tend to be some of the most beautiful of the day, so it would be a shame to miss out on these!
5. It Calms Nerves. This is funny, but a lot of grooms will actually tell you that they are all about the “First Look” because they are just so darn nervous about seeing you for the first time walking down the aisle. Their nervousness at that point almost overwhelms all other emotions! Seeing their bride beforehand helps their wedding day jitters subside, allowing both parties to really enjoy the ceremony!
